"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." -- unknown

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - Albert Einstein

A good old rambling
November 28, 2007 - 6:40 pm

I'm almost of the opinion that there's a ghost in my place -- and no, I don't mean kitty messes with things sort of ghost. I mean top loading washer is busy washing... I'm busy cleaning, I notice washer has stopped, so I go back to check on it and the top is open.

I was so-so in physics, but I can't think of single that could make the lid fully open up. Well, other than something paranormal.

Too much soap might - MIGHT - make it leak suds and push the lid a bit I suppose.. but not lift the lid fully open, as in more than 90 degrees up.

In other news...

I suppose I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the holiday.. well, consider it mentioned. It's nothing I've not talked about before. The only highlight would be I did catch up with my friend and spent far too much time and money in a bar getting schooled on Golden Tee.

In other other news...

It seems I'm one step closer to getting a new gig at work. Supposedly they are looking for folks now, so, at the suggestion of my advocate, I left the bossman a message. On Monday. So far, no reply. Perhaps things aren't really moving at all.

Oh, one more than back the holiday... We spent a good while watching Deal or No Deal. And from this show of all places, a nugget I've been mulling over...

As said from a mother to a daughter: "If you want something you've never had, you need to do something you've never done."

The daughter said "No deal." Not to the mother, but to the host.

Far from a staggering line I know, but one that's lingered nonetheless. It's a valid point. In fact, it's a wonderful flip side to "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result."

In other words, change comes from changing. Not so much wants or needs or anything else, but you have to actually do it.

Which leads to a further musing I've been having lately: Americans are all about lip service. We are all about the words, the sound byte.. not so much the action.

The cases in point are endless. As a society, we claim to be a Christian nation -- that's not to say we all are, we are not, but that we are founded and rooted in that tradition...

But.. I bet I could count the actual Christians I've met on one hand. Sure millions of people go to church and say they are this or that denomination -- but our actions betray the truth. How many priest commit sins? How many reverends? How many "good Christians" break - shatter really - multiple commandments?

We are nation built upon rationalization. It's ok to lie sometimes.. cheating isn't such a big deal.. we do nothing to keep the sabbath holy.. we take the lord's name in vain in the most colorful of ways.. we love to worship idols.. and the list goes on.

Why? Because, all we need to do, we think, is say "sorry" at some point. Of course, saying sorry and asking forgiveness is one thing... but meaning it quite another. We sin on purpose on daily basis and say "god knows I don't mean it, so of course I'm going to heaven."

If you're really Christian, your goal shouldn't be to say 'sorry', but avoid the sin in the first place. Saying your mortal and therefore fallible is a laughable defense.

If you're really a Christian, the cheesy saying of WWJD should hold quite a bit of weight in your mind... and whether you're religious or not, the world would be a happier, safer place.

Talk about getting off track. I'm not even religious.

I'm pretty out of time.

Perhaps, upon reflection, I left the lid while it was filling with water and so, once full, it stopped until I finally put the lid down. Perhaps.
