political ads
October 24, 2006 - 6:29 am

i'm becoming of the opinion that.. political ads should have to be "positive" ads -- that is, no ad should air that simply bashes the opponent.

that's really what our so called elections are all about these days.. each person airing ads that attack the other.

for me, it's a total turn off. i want to hear what you're going to do different. sure, say X did this.. i disagree with it and and would do Y. you can still get your digs in this way.. but at least it has a touch of being about how the candidate would try to do a better job.

if all a person does is say why the other sucks.. well, to put that in my-world terms.. that's like sitting in a meeting and bitching that nothing is right and calling out a co-worker again and again... only you don't ever offer a solution. can i do that? sure.. will it get me promoted? hell no. so why should i vote for someone when that's all they do?

it's little wonder that something like 40% of people who can vote do -- which means the "majority winner" often only has 21% or 22% of the possible vote.

think about that.. our leaders are elected with less than a quarter of possible voters supporting them... we aren't a nation of the majority anymore.. we aren't a nation for the people or by the people.
