cheating and drugs.. ok for some?
October 24, 2006 - 5:14 pm

so.. today was day 2 of insurance class and on breaks i took to reading the usa today.

by chance i came across this baseball related article -- i say by chance because i don't much care for baseball. what caugh my eye was the title: "In baseball there's good and bad cheating".

linkie: http://tinyurl.com/sh6cy

the whole "good" and "bad" cheating caught my eye.. what the fuck is? good and bad cheating? i don't follow.. i don't understand -- how is cheating in baseball good?

a quick read of the article and, keep in mind this is the sport that won't let one of the greatest hitters of all time into the hall of fame for betting, it turns out.. baseball has, from time to time, given a wink and nod to cheaters.

i'm befuddled by this. in fact, some policies in sports in general.. just flat out confuse me.

someone gets caught using a banned substance and they get a fine or miss some games.. in my job, if got caught using something.. i'd be fired. sure there's a lot fewer opportunies for a pro player, but still... wtf?

so now it seems folks really think the the pitcher in the last game was cheating.. and it seems that's ok with baseball. the other manager didn't do whatever inspection thing they could do.. i guess later in the game the pitcher had to clean his hand.. but still. what the fuck?

why is this even near acceptable?

why can they use drugs and get what amounts to a slap on the wrist? if it's an illegal substance.. why aren't they arrested? yeah, i know.. the last thing we need is more people in jail for drugs.. why should they get to keep playing and making millions? again, i'd lose my job -- and not a single person would give a shit. well, i guess i might get put into a treatment facility and possibly have my job at the end (i forget the rules aound that), but i don't doubt i'd be leaving that company soon enough for other reasons.

why do i care about this? well.. it seems to me this goes back to the whole culture of this country. why do we tolerate such tripe?
