i don't fit.

i think i've gone through the looking glass.

two true stories:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/05/19/disney.dvds.reut/index.html <--disney and dvds that go worthless in 48 hours. the idea? rental dvds that you don't have to return. why is this dumb? can we say landfills full of worthless dvds? of course, we live in a throw-away society, so it will probably do quite well.

http://slate.msn.com/id/2083034/ <--some guy has the idea that we should penalize juries who, for example, find someone innocent who later turns out to be guilty. the article goes into the details, but basically the position is that the jurors don't have any incentive to get things right the first time. we should pay the more (i agree so far) and they get a fine if they fucked up. seeing as our system is based on the idea of 'reasonable doubt', the whole idea is fucked up. why no fine a prosecutor who doesn't present a good enough case to convict someone who turns out later to be guilty? why not fine the defense if they get a guilty person off?

i've no idea what to do with the judge who controls the whole process. i guess judges are just plain fucked.

there was another article or two.. but what's the point? i clearly don't fit.
