Better to settle?

Is it better to pick a person and say, "Ok, here we go..." or to remain alone?

Is it better to wait for someone that may never ever come and at least you say something about not being willing to compromise or is it better to have someone who is a compromise?

Yet another situation where the words I type don't quite seem to capture the question in my head.
