Why do we care about the sex lives of our political leaders?

Does fidelity in some way correlate with the ability to lead?

Consider this, there's not one shred of thinking that W has been unfaithful and there's a mountain, pretty literally, that Clinton cheated on a regular basis -- who would you rather have in office?

In a related way, I really do dislike the laws we have that are based on someone's version of morality. Never mind the whole punishment fitting the crime and being forgiven once your free.. those things will never truly happen. But a review of the laws would be i-fucking-deal.

The Vick story with the dog fighting confuses me. It seems to be a case of "you can take the boy out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the boy" -- only Vick didn't exactly grow up in ghetto.

It's interesting to note, on the other hand, that the basic tenant of our society, "innocent until proven guilty" becomes less and less real. Pacman Jones is out of the league for numerous arrests, but not one single conviction. Vick has lost endorsement deals and is being pushed to take a volunteery suspension until this is sorted out... with a great many people clammoring for him to be banned now.

The case has been tried and judged in the public's mind.

I wonder what would happen to a 'normal' person at a 'normal' job should they have the issues these two guys have. Would they have been fired? I think so. Really. I do.

Pacman Jones has shown a startling inability to make good choices and that's reason enough to can his ass. You don't get suspended from a 'normal' job, not like this. You get fired.

All these guys had to do was behave for a few years. The average football career isn't that long. Behave while you play, retire and then do what you want. The NFL, sponsors, whatever can't really mess with you... of course, dog fighting will still land your disturbed ass in jail.

It think it'd land you in a real jail, not a country club one. Imagine that.. Vick, worth 100's of millions of dollars in a jail. Not like Hilton, but for years.

This also makes me wonder, why do we pay athletes so much?

Sure, their skills may be rare and impressive.. but how does that correlate to the massive salaries they get and the ticket prices going up every year?

They like to say it's about "the fan", but why make "the fan" pay more and more and more and more... a family to see a baseball game is over $100. It's disturbing. I wait for the day when fans decide it's simply not worth giving their money to folks this.

And that's what it's about.. not "the fan", but the money. Sports isn't about entertainment anymore, it's about making money.
