it's all about context

take.. lies. people lie all the time. we tell little lies.. white lies.. mind-you're-own-business lies.. but a lie is a lie, right?

i've no idea.

if you feel bad and someone asks what's wrong you say nothing -- you lied. with a commonly justified reason, so it's perfectly acceptble. well, culturally acceptable at any rate.

this is on my mind due to some of today's events.. more on the tomorrow. well, probably.

i suppose it also relates to lost. the other's keep saying they are good.. but are doing seemingly 'bad' things. could they have an ultimate 'good goal' that justifies what they are doing?

can the ends ever justify the means?

i used to really ponder of that.. never quite getting what it meant. for some people it's an easy question -- be it yes or no... more likely, it depends.

we place a value judgement on the 'it depends' part.. and so there's no clear answer.

is it ever right to kill someone?

is it ever right to steal?

first blush.. people probably say no. then the what if questions start.. what if you could go back in time and kill hitler as a baby? what if you had to steal to get medicine for your dying child?

context. i suppose it's all about context.

what's best for me.. may not be best for you. what i can justify as acceptable.. you wouldn't.
