forcing freedom and intolerance
March 05, 2006 - 10:25 am

this society seems so mixed up.

the founder of domino's pizza wants to build (and is indeed building) a town in florida. he wants the town to be based on roman catholic values and is building a cathholic university there to boot..

in accordance with the values idea, things like pronography won't be sale..

civil liberties folks are upset about this. they say it's matter of freedom -- that you can't not sell certain things.

perhaps my understanding is off.. but if he's building a new town and the people who want to live there don't want x, y, or z sold.. who cares? isn't that a viable way for them to live free?

i'm not a religious person. i couldn't care less about a new catholic university.

i just don't the idea 'forcing' people to live 'free' if it's not what they want. it's not like some kid who wants condoms won't be able to drive over one town and get them.

i guess the solution will be the town will be forced to sell them, but will come up with a way to make it a pain in the ass to buy whatever it is.. have the offensive material locked up and you have to ask or a really high price.. whatever.

then there's new jersey. a sub teacher who's 70-something had a sex change and now wants to go back to being a sub. parent's are outraged. they say it's unexceptable. the kids in question are all under 12 (if i recall correctly).. and i doubt they much know or care about sex changes.

so much for the land of free.. the gal is qualified.. has taught before, but now she can't?

so it's ok to force a town to sell things they don't want to sell... things that go against their religious beliefs.. but it's ok to ban a person from teaching because you find the idea of sex change.. distasteful?

do the parents really thing their kids are going to be adversely affected by this teacher?

seems to me the parents are just teaching the kids about intolerance.
