a religious-ish rant
March 14, 2005 - 10:57 pm

i saw some article and hear a bit of news story about that lady in georgia who talked to the rapist turned courtroom killer/escapist.

i got the impression some people felt "god" stepped in and stopped the guy through the woman's actions... that it was a near miricale what she did..

i'm baffled by this. well, no, i can understand it if you only think about the part of a person talking a murderer into turning himself in.. but that's a narrow snapshot..

the guy still killed three (or is it four with the customs agent?). where was god then? perhaps only the lady was worthy of being saved? god plays favorites? the families of the judge, court room folk and customs agent (if he killed them all) i guess.. arn't worthy. she must be truly special.

what about the cameras that were on in the courtroom? the ones that caught the escape.. but the folks working the cameras didn't notice.. where was god then? it just would have taken one person to be watching.. and the guy probably wouldn't have gotten out of the courthouse. probably, not for sure.. but still.

do you see my point?

sure you can see the hand in god in what the woman did.. sure you can think just about that.. and get all warm and fuzzy thinking about god and how he saved that woman.. just becareful, you best keep your ass firmly on god's good side, cause he does play favorites.. and if a judge, two baliffs and customs agent don't make the "to be saved" list, how can you be sure you do?

nevermind the fact that we are all god's childern.. and god is benevolant.. how does playing favorites fit with that? selective benevolance? a "parent" who only cares about some of his kids?

christianity is full of contradictions.. full of nonsensical statements and arguments. kinda staggering so many belief so fully in it.. but then, that's the allure. if you have faith, logic doesn't matter. you can rest easy that there is plan.. there is god's plan..

careful though, god gave you free will. so you can do whatever you want, you're free to choose.. but if you choose and choose poorly, it's ok, not your fault... it's god's plan.

so.. does that mean you really didn't choose freely? that we are just actors in god's grand play? everything happens for a reason right? no no, we have free will!

but.. but.. but..

i'm not saying god doesn't exist. well, that's a bad word to use. i'll rephrase, i'm not saying a higher power doesn't exist. i'm just saying.. as nice and warm and fuzzy as it can be.. x-ianity is really kinda twisted.

hell, most people i know who claim to be very religious can't even be bothered to follow the ten commandents on a daily basis. how freakin' sad is that?

they say it's ok, i can just ask for forgiveness...

isn't a key part of asking for forgivness meaning it.. and doing your damnedest not to repeat?

oh well, such little things are lost. but that's all.. it's all part of god's plan, so just choose what you do at random.
