olympics and kids toy
August 16, 2004 - 12:18 pm

i like watching the olympics at home. i can flip around and skip the commercials and make fun of the announcers.

i don't like that nbc has the games on something like 5 different channles, but only some of the time. sometimes, bravo has them, but not the main nbc station. sometimes msnbc has them and cnbc, but then bravo won't...

i suppose what i really need is a schedule, but i'm too lazy to look it up.

what really turns me off about the olympics is that.. it's now such a farce (spelling?). it used to be all about national pride and the games themselves.. now it's business - just like everything else in the world.

i'd never pay to go attend an olympic game - at least not how they are run today.. if you are seen drinking pepsi, you can be ousted from the event. you see, coke is a major sponsor, so only coke products can be consumed on olympic grounds.. same with all the other major sponsers. wear the wrong shirt.. and you're booted.

it's like.. coke paid millions of dollars to sponser the olympics and they want to be totally assured they are going to make more than what they paid out during the course of the games.

i can understand that.. but the point of sponsering something isn't to make money - it's to enable something that needs funding to happen.. something that if people didn't sponser it.. wouldn't be able to happen - rather like donating money to a charity. sure, as a sponser you get promoted and your stuff gets sold - as it should be. but to say ONLY the goods and services of the sponsers can be used/consumed.. is well, rather like a nazi state, no?

eh.

one day i have no doubt, unless people get a shift in thinking, corporations will run the world - not in the shadows, but quite openly.

that twisted, sad thing is.. that money is really "nothing". it has no value in and of itself. it's a peice of paper or blip in an electronic banking system.

you know.. i'm well aware that i say the same things over and over on here.. different words, perhaps different emphisis.. i'm like a kids toy that only beats out one song.. over and over and over and over.

thankfully, batteries fade.. and expire.
