kids grow up slow
September 06, 2002 - 6:48 pm

just an odd musing for you..

there are two women at work who are pregant. one is about seven months along and the other about two.

i work with the one who is two. today she comments on how fast her baby is growing and someone replies just wait till it's born and then you'll really see how fast they grow.

at first this seemd perfectly normal to me. i've seen my niece twice, once when she was a month old and then when she was about a year old and the change is pretty dramatic.

it doesn't, however, strike me as awful fast. i mean a human baby spends nine months in the womb and then years, upon years growing until it's in any shape to fend for itself. could a five year old survive without support? a ten year old? i haven't put that much thought into it, but it's years.

that's a really, really long time. why so long? if you look at the animal kingdom, having defensless newborns is a huge problem. the sooner a baby zebra can run, the better.

no it seems to me our kids grow up quite slow...
