"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." -- unknown a while ago i would have posted this the minute i got home. a while ago i was all into posting things about the absurdity of people. i think this story is a masterpiece and a new cornerstone of my theory. a guy is sueing fast food companies because he claims they are responsible for his obesity and poor health. apperently he eats (ate?) at one of a number of fast food places five or six times a week because the food is so tasty and he's single/hates to cook. it's the ulitmate story of 'i'm a dumbass who totally screwed myself, but i don't care about that...i want to blame someone else and get rich.' it is the new american dream. if this 'case' even gets into a court or if there's some settlement, i'm no longer going to live in the united states. sure that's something of a bold claim. it may take me a bit to figure out where i'm going to go, but go i will. i don't plan to plan for this since i'm betting heavily that it won't get to court and there won't be a settlement. what's next if it does? if i get into a car wreck can i sue car makers? even if the car itself had nothing to do with the accident and it's safety features save my life? why can't i? there's a massive history of car accidents and yet they still make cars that have accidents. if my house burns down, can i sue the makers of wood timber and dry wall? what about the carpet mfgs? using wood and other flamable materials is inherently dangerious and yet these companies don't even bother to label the wood 'danger flamable'. in fact they continue to push thier products in the construction of homes and other buildings. it's totally irresponsible. just wait till the next time i cut myself with a knife. talk about irresponsiblity. i mean they market these dastardly things as _sharp_, they fully admit the danger and market to it! i think in this guys lawsuit he's trying to ride on the coattails of tobacco lawsuits. there's a minor difference in that those companies sell a product that contains an addicitve agent more potent than cocaine and lied about it. now that i think about it, fast food companies rely on something even more powerful than addiction. they rely on human laziness, our growing demand for instant satisfaction and our shrinking desire to actually do something for ourselves. i might move regardless.
