vacation day 3 -blah, stupid people

vacation day 3 - nonvacation related entry.

i'm looking for a better link than this drudgereport.com link (http://www.drudgereport.com/matt91g.htm) for this story that shows _exactly_ what's with people these days. i don't know if it's all people or just americans.

the gist of the story is that two families in maryland town felt 'uncomfortable' with the idea of santa being at the annual xmass tree lighting, so santa is banned.

does anyone else see this as completly absurd??

i have to assume that the two families are not christian, which is fine and good. lots of people/religions don't recognize xmass let alone celebrate it. it's your choice not to attend a public event that you don't like or agree with. but to step up and say 'i want to attend, but the idea of a fat man in a red suit with a gray beard makes me uneasy and so i think santa should not be present' is down right selfish. i'm not sure selfish is the best word. i know absurd is. the 'best' part of this absurdity is that the lighting ceremony is free to continue, so it's not the idea of xmass these families are against. it's not the christian concept that jesus was born on this day intermixed with old pagan rituals that has them uneasy. oh no, the town is free to decorate the trees and had a gay old time stringing the lights. they just can't have a red-suited gray-haired man go ho-ho-ho and toss candy to kids.

perhaps religion isn't a part of this at all and the families are some sort of strict feminists who object to saint nick always being a man. perhaps if mrs clause came this year and tossed candy it would be ok.

things like this just kill me.

why do people _have_ to make everything their way without considering the greater enjoyment of the group? why is that even the silliest complants of hte smallest minority get validated and forced upon the baffled masses?
