Lies

Now that I'm older... I realize that they lied. Just like they did about Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and so very many other things.

I'm told, for I have none of my own, that children are one thing (perhaps THE one thing) people love unconditionally... so why is that we lie to them so much... so often... so intentionally?

Why do so many people say... that the one thing they value most in another person is honest, open communication... and yet, we revel in telling the ones we love the most... lie after lie after lie?

This contradiction is the very heart, I think, of what it means to be a human. And I am at a loss to understand why.
