"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." -- unknown

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - Albert Einstein

A question answered and hello.
October 25, 2009 - 9:35 am

A question asked:

"Why the hell do we always want the things we don't have?"

Human nature is the answer. If we didn't want what we didn't have.. we'd, as a species, suck at innovation and creation. We have an innate desire to get something that we don't have. We imagine what having this new thing will be like. And... in that imagining, there lies our fatal flaw: we aren't so interested in a realistic imagining of having this 'thing', but we see having it in our own stylized, idealized way.

We see having in a perfect way.

For example, the perfect mate. No fighting. No conflict. No annoying, maddening idiosyncrasies... or anything of the like. We see only the perfect bits we allow ourselves to see.

Reality always fall short of this.. sometimes disastrously short. Our minds wander to the idyllic fantasy... and we grow displeased. This 'perfect mate' must not be the one. He/she is close, but not quite right...

Or.. something to that effect.

And... I'm am baffled once again. Another person reading page after page.. after page. I wish I could peek into your head and read your thoughts as you read mine.

Is that freaky? I don't mean it to be...

But I am curious, if you were to go out, where would you go?
