"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." -- unknown

my way to work
November 18, 2005 - 7:44 pm

i can't log into my writing.com account. this bothers me. not that i have anything to post.. but i like to check my email there and pretend that someone might have written me about a story.

i did buy some powerball tickets today. i didn't do the kicker though, so i won't win.

i ordered quite a few books the other day. i'm semi-anxious for them to arrive.

on the way into work.. the radio played an ad to take your kids to see beauty and the beast. nearly all the "kids" in the ad were little girls..

this bothers me on two levels. first, it implies only little girls would like such a thing -- possibly true.. but still. second, doesn't that story teach little girls that they can fix some brutish guy.. and a bit of a dash of a guy needs a girl to "wake up" and love the world.

yeah, i know.. it's just a play. that's just a brief snapshot of what i thought when i heard the ad. well, that and kids are at their most impressionable at young ages..

the larger issue is that this plays out all over the place.. nearly every family oriented family show is beauty and the beast. the gal is pretty, the guy is fat. the gal is smart and caring, the guy is oafish and insensitive.

it's never the reverse.

my point is that.. if we really do want equality, we need to view each other equally.

anyway. this is what i thought about on the way to work.. to avoid thinking about how nice it will be to quit.

as for dreams.. i get what you mean, waking up from them can be sad. i suppose, in some way, dreams on what we'd like (or are scared of).. and tend not to mesh well with reality.
