cindy pisses me off
September 17, 2005 - 12:51 pm

cindy sheehan.

these two words make me cringe like little else commonly covered in media.

but before i get into this, two notes.

1) i'm not a fan of bush. in fact, i'm rather embarassed that he became president. i think it's a sad commentary that he was the 'best' republicans could offer up -- and the same can be said for the democrats. we need leaders, not whatever is deemed electable.

2) i'm very much a realist in terms of the war/situation in iraq. by this i mean, what's done has been done and what we need to focus on and deal is the present situation.

now.. getting back to the media whore that cindy sheehan has become.. the drudgreport (yes, ever the bastion of unbiased reporting i know) has this bit:

"I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I dont care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way America will become more secure is if we have a new administration that cares about Americans even if they dont fall into the top two percent of the wealthiest."

now, the parts about people need to help people i fully agree with. what's pissed me off today is this bit about "...pull our troups out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq..."

now. wholey fuck. why pull troops from new orleans? some people there have shown they need the military to be there. looting and many other crimes have been rampent.

would i loot or do whatever in such a situation? i'm not arrogant enough to know the answer to that. i've been through a hurricane.. with my sister-in-law, brother and his two kids. we didn't have power for five days.. but damage wasn't extreme or anything to compare with new orleans. i can remember thinking, if we need to get clean water.. how would i do this? of course, the answer then was easy.. we just drive and get it. i'm not sure if getting water/food and things you _need_ count as looting..

anyway. i object to anything comparing iraq to new orleans. in anyway shape or form.

in fact, i object to the whole absurd notion that we need to pull ALL troops out of the middle east now.

this is, by far, the dumbest idea i've heard in a good long while.

please feel free to object to how things got started there. please feel free to search for something to start the impeachment process if you feel you must.

however, saying we need to remove all our troops _now_ is reprehensible. you may say our troops are dying there -- and you are right.

to you i say, is the life of one person worth more than another? does a life of a person who is born in one geographical area become worth more than another?

if our troops leave iraq now, i have little doubt the country, what's left of it, would implode.

just like the first part of cindy's little rant says "I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I dont care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her." that very logic is why our troops must not leave iraq or afghanistan until such time as those places can take care of themselves.

i don't care who they elect. let the people vote and enjoy whoever they elect.

i don't much care how long it takes. our troops need to be there.. because if they aren't much, much worse things will happen.

now..a few personal closing tidbits. my brother is on his way home from the middle east. his wife is set to leave in a few months to go there. so yes, i do have family involved in this situation. as i eluded to above, they have two little girls -- girls who havn't seen their dad in six or seven months and won't be seeing mom for six or seven months.

is this a shitty for them? yes. hell yes. i feel bad for their family. that doesn't change the fact.. that doesn't change what the larger picture is... what the larger reality is.

the situation is what it is.. and to say we need to pullout now it so to say you value one life above another. you apperantly base this judgement on where a person was born -- on imaginary lines drawn on map.

stop with the knee-jerk reactions. think about what you're saying -- and for the love of all that's good an wholey, stop paying attention to cindy sheehan.
