i am.. now in possesion of a rather thick piece of paper -- nearly construction-like type paper, though people would shudder to think i called it such -- that uses the word whereof.

wtf kind of word is whereof?

anyway.. i knew what it was the moment i saw the large enveloped marked "fragile, do not bend" -- which by the way isn't true. you can bend paper just fine and nothing bad will happen, you just can't crease it -- if keeping it "smooth" is your intent.

i'm not sure why, but i rather expected.. something "more", though what else could have been included i don't know.

i pulled the "zipper" on the envelope and then set it down, feeling no real need to open it. the surprise was seeing it, i already know what's inside.

a moment later i wondered if my name was spelled right.. so i opended it and took the paper out.

indeed, my name is spelled right.. in some god awful font. why isn't it written in something nice and eady to read? i don't know.

actaully, yes i do know. as silly as it sounds, the paper is trying to pretentious -- the fancy script is an effort to make folks think that it's more than it really is -- and make no mistake about it, it is merely just a peice of thick whitish paper with black ink.

it is the concrete evidence that i did indeed graduate from a master's program in, and i quote, "the city of norfolk on this seventh day of may, 2005 in the two hundred twenty-ninth year of the commonwealth of virginia, and in the seventy-fifth year of the university."

now.. to me, the interesting part is that virginia is not a state, but a commonwealth -- a rare thing in these united states. and yes, there is a difference.

so what's this entry really been about?

some six (or is it eight?) weeks after i sat on metal chair in a robe, i finally received my "evidence" of graduation.. my diploma.

personally, i'd much rather have some sort of nifty scroll thing.. not this paper dealie with computer printed letters that the lower loops of y's and g's get cut off..

kinda sad they can't even get it to print properly. i'm tempted to write and complain..
