food for thought

scary stuff here:

http://www.bmezine.com/news/pubring/20030816.html#beep

of course, leading with a quote from the unibomber isn't always a good way to rack up credibility.. but his basic point bears some thought.. and is why we'll be seeing more and more movies from hollywood about robots taking over the world.

anyway. i thought occured me as i scanned cnn's page and saw an article that said something like "intern charged for havings sex with student".

not to long ago, i'd have assumed it was an older guy bedding some young co-ed. this time though, i just assumed it was yet another older woman bedding a co-ed (guy) and i was right.

hrm, is it right to call a guy "co-ed"? i don't care.

then i thought, you know... more and more i'm seeing articles with women as the criminal/suspect. it used to be the vast, vast majority of crimes were commited buy males. without a doubt, some crimes still are vastly, vastly male dominated and will probably continue to be, but you can't quite just assume as much anymore.

story of a parent killing a child? ten years ago, i'd assume "husband did it". not so much now.

perhaps the whole push for equality is catching things up in more ways than just in the business world. i know the last study i saw on life expectency shows guys and gals were getting close and closer. perhaps getting equal treatment in society isn't all it's cracked up to be..

are women getting more violent/crime prone? perhaps it's just getting more coverage? is the mortality gap really narrowing? is it due to more women working and that stress causing earlier deaths? perhaps guys are getting healthier and living longer?

does it matter? since afterall, the robot overlords will soon be here...

of course, i can't really assume any causation.. could just be a random correlation of events.. still, food for thought.
