my free car and VD
February 14, 2005 - 1:30 pm

today.. i went and had some work done to my "free" car. the car came from my brother.. and since i know him, i know nothing has ever been done to the car beyond erratic oil changes.

it has 60,000 miles, so a lot needs looked it.

i dropped a nice $150 today on oil, power steering (which was making scary noises and was a sickly brown color), fuel injector stuff (filter and whatnot). i'm sure i over paid, but i don't have the skills to these things myself.

the guy at the oil change place was like "wholey shit" when the carbon (ie black smoke) was belowing out of the exhaust. i know he wasn't shitting me when he said "that's a lot of carbon. damn is that a lot of carbon."

i need to call the saturn place to see about getting some of the other thing checked. seems that saturn "seals" things like the battery and transmission..

now, i'm not a total sucker for car care junk, but i do recogonize that some attention needs to be given to such matters and since the car was basically free to me, i'm willing to drop a few hundred now so i know what's been done and when. i want to drive the car for many, many years to come. an ounce of getting ripped off now is worth a pound of getting ripped off later.

in other news..

some radio station was talking about happy VD day -- as in venerial disease day.. not valentines day. this amused me.

i never quite grasped the blacklash of the holiday.

on a similair note, being male.. i'm curious about something. the whole "if he gives me X he must love me" thing.

now use small words, i'm male, but i'd like to grasp the concept.. how does a diamond = love? how does spending lots of money equal devotion? how do lavish gifts once a year mean he truly cares?

it's kinda silly. actaully, to me, its worse than silly.. society puts pressure on folks to celebrate the holiday.. so he MUST give his significant other something.. and roses will do or chocloate.. but really, i don't grasp the basic idea: he gives me a trinket, therefore he loves me.

don't words and deeds matter more?

or is love really "for sale"?

and yet.. we look down on prostitutes.. what's the differnce? $50 for a night of sex... does it matter if it's cash or in the form of dinner?
