more movie junk

on the RoTK movie.. the thing i didn't like the most about it is the scene they added (at least to my recollection anyways) where sam and frodo get into a fight. i might reread the king to see if that's there.. or perhaps i'll just hop around to some review sites and see what they say.

things they cut that were meaningful to the last movie include: pretty much all the crap sam & frodo had to go through to get to mount doom - the mingling with the orcs, the marching, etc. not to mention the whole bit with the mouth of sauron coming out and show off to gandalf et al the clothing of frodo - making them think frodo was dead and the ring caputred. the trials of the march to mount doom and the 'good guys' loosing hope are, to me anyway, important bits of the movie..

though, the battle scenes were wonderful. i'm glad olyphants really arn't that big!

i can see dropping things.. there's way, way too much info for one movie. i think what they shot was great.

but, i'd much rather have two movies for each book if that's what it takes to get it right. i think the books were written with a definite point in mind - not just entertainment. cutting things out and, worse, adding things in just doesn't do it justice.

i'm not a huge tolkien fan, but i guess i lean towards the purest category.

likewise, i've heard the last matrix movie was totally trash, worse than the second, so i've not seen it yet. i'll way for the dvd to come out.

the first matrix was great. the second was just an action movie - yes, i know all about the symbolism. i just refused to like a squel simply because the first movie was great. each movie needs to be good on it's own. most of all, they need to be consistent with each other - and as much as some folks would like to think so, they matrix films are not.

anyway, since this is all about movies - can anyone recommend a movie like the nightmare before christmass?
