"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." -- unknown i've heard folks say the war (is it really a war? we didn't issue a declaration of war did we?) in iraq is morally wrong. i've heard folks say that the war in iraq is morally right, since saddam has killed hunderds of thousands of people - often gassing them to death. now a moral is defined as: A concisely expressed precept or general truth; a maxim. truth is a key word in the defintion and a truth is something that is undeniably true. now it's a whole seperate converstation as to if something can undeniably be true, but let's run with this. so here we have to groups of people each purporting one action to be either morally 'wrong' or morally 'right'. the issue seems to be undeniably murky, not 'true'. in other words, it's all a matter of opinion put in the context of having the backing from some 'greater good' - since we all know that any 'god-like being' back our own thoughts. never mind the inherent paradox of this god-like being backing someone else's thoughts while backing mine, especially if the thoughts don't match. if there is no god-like being, well that's much easier to sort out. if there is no god-like being, then there is no 'greater good' and everything becomes clearly becomes just opinions strongly stated. what am i babbling on about? nothing much, it just occured to me about ten minutes ago when i logged on to dland and someone on the tv said something about morals. just another case of people having a dangerously inflated sense of 'self-rightousness' i suppose. seems to be the current rage among humans. there is no real right or wrong, just opinions. in fact, nothing is real but atoms and nothingness - everything else is opinion. i forget who said that, some long dead greek fellow.
