Washer and Jackson
June 28, 2009 - 3:29 pm

Perhaps the most amazing thing I've seen in recent time... is Loca adjusting to the new washer.

Upon installation, the tech guy put it through a cycle to show it had no leaks and left. Up to this point, I'd had Loca secured in a room and now let her out. She walked down the hallway.. and stopped, head turning to see source of this new, odd noise.

The new washer has one of those clear front doors so you can see the clothes tumbling about -- or, in this case, the water sloshing about.

She froze.

She considered the sight before... and rationalized it was some sort of bizarre, fiendish cat torturing device and bolted.

Moments pass.. and she crept towards it, slowly back to the hallway. Her natural curiosity overcoming her fear. She watched in true skittish style.

The machine changed gears and she bolted.

Slowly, back to the machine again... another change and another bolt.

Now.. two loads of laundry later, she's sitting in the hallway staring at it. Trying to sort out just what the fuck it's for. I've normally got the bi-fold doors closed to the laundry area. She sits, mostly behind the bi-fold, head poking around.

Slowly, ever so slowly, she's come to the opinion that perhaps it's not a torture device -- though it is a bit unlevel and so rocks.

Should I even hint at walking towards her/the hallway, she will still bolt.

Hah, I type, she finally approaches the clear door... to see the horror of the sloshing water behind it. Ears twitching, crouching.. tail.. fluttering...

Sadly, one day soon.. she'll not even give it another look. It and its noises will soon be nothing by another magical mystery device best left ignored. There's better things to focus on like birds... and wine corks.

In other news... as for the passing of Michael Jackson.. he was, without any argument, one of the best entertainers ever. I didn't care for much of his music, but there's no denying his ability to sing and dance. His personal life... a sad cautionary tale for any child star. I've no doubt all he really wanted a an adult was to go back in time and live the normal, wonder-filled life of a child.

My linger thought is that.. how sad is that his passing nearly crashed the internet -- not something like Dafur or Iran... but the death of an entertainer. I suppose, I am happy the rumors of his personal life didn't destroy the love so many had for him and his work, but still...

Something just seems off, doesn't it?
