Snow...
December 13, 2007 - 2:13 pm

In the midsts of getting the first true snow storm... and I'm rudely reminded just how silly some people can be.

Let me try to help.. let me offer some words of advice, in no particular order:

1) Your car has more than one gear, use them.

2) If you don't like to drive in snow, then don't leave work early. Wait at work. The longer you wait, sure the more snow will fall, but the more plows will clear the roads -- the main roads you're going to use anyway.

3) Stopping is bad. Stopping on hills is unacceptable.

4) Understand what your car can do. It doesn't matter what you "think" it can do, you need to know what it can. I drive a simple 4 door Saturn. No four wheel drive. Today, I went up a hill an SUV couldn't... well, it could, but the driver simply wouldn't do it. This person should have stayed at work -- or, more to the point, stayed on the main road.

5) Just because you have an SUV, or any car, with 4 wheel drive, doesn't mean you can drive in the snow. A car is just a tool... fancy drive types are just fancy tools. You still need to know and understand the basic laws of physics.

6) If you feel that the first flake means the roads MUST be icy, don't drive. Ride with someone... stay at home or at work... I don't care. Snow does not equal ice.

7) Unless your lucky enough to be the first SOB on the road, there will be tracks. Drive in the tracks. Pretend you're a train. Get out of the tracks and you deserve to get stuck.

8) Recognize that even though you may think you know what you're doing, you must assume no one else on the road has a clue.

9) Loca does not like snow. Despite the fact that it offers her pretty darn good camo, she's not very interested in being in it. Perhaps she needs little booties for her paws.

10) Trust me when I say I had much better things in my head as it took me near 1.5 hours to drive 10 miles.
